How long have you been here and why did you decide to join Orchard?
I've been at Orchard for almost 1 year. When I started looking for a new role I had recently started a HR qualification so I was looking for a role which I could implement my learning in. The interview process at Orchard was great and I really loved the culture and the values of the company.
What do you do at Orchard?
I work within the HR Team helping provide support for HR and recruiting people into the business. We’re a small team in HR so no day is ever quite the same and we have to be quite adaptive to handle all different sorts of queries.
What’s it like working here?
Orchard is a really friendly and sociable place to work. One of my favourite things is the “Just Ask” policy as it really helps you have a good work life balance.
What kind of things are you involved in regularly?
I mainly deal with recruiting and on-boarding new employees, so I do lots of interviews and all the paperwork that comes with employing someone. I really like that the main part of my job is speaking to lots of different people, I get to understand why people are looking for new roles and that can be really interesting. I try to make sure that Orchard is a good fit for the candidate and that the candidate is a good fit for us. I also work on HR projects which can be support our employees with ill health or simple queries about booking holidays. It’s a very varied role.
What is the best part of your job and being at Orchard?
One of the most rewarding things is seeing people succeed in their new roles. You really feel like you’ve had a hand in helping people in their careers. HR roles can be quite tough too, but one of the best things about Orchard is that we also do try to put our people first.
What has been your proudest achievement so far?
I’ve only been with Orchard a short time so I feel like I’m still learning in my role, but one of my achievements has been running successful recruitment events, and getting the Orchard brand out into the University sector. We’ve managed to recruit quite a lot of graduates and its opened up a new talent pool for the company.
