Day in the Life – Degree Apprentice

Scott Harwood, Degree Apprentice

Why did you decide to join Orchard?

I decided to join because I would be able to work with some of the most cutting edge technology in the sector, whilst also studying for a degree.

What do you do at Orchard?

I am a developer which means most of my time is spent working on a product being developed here using powerful new technologies, I also use a day a week to work on my apprenticeship course, working on the current module.

What's it like working here?

Working at Orchard is very empowering helping to build software that is used to help people in social housing whilst being supported in the things I do via mentoring and teamwork.

What kind of things are you involved in regularly?

I participate in all the SCRUM ceremonies as well as design sessions to work with the team and designers to decide on the look and feel of the product.

What is the best part of your job and being at Orchard?

The best part of my job is the fact that I am constantly challenged in what I'm trying to do, I have never came into work and said "ugh, I've got to do this again". The best part of being at orchard has to be the community, using tools like google groups to ensure that the knowledge is shared around.

What has been your proudest achievement so far?

My proudest moment is every day, because I am incredibly proud of the work I produce and the effect it will have on the community.
